Bachelorette – First Date Night

Last Monday I settled down to see what more fun the first night of date cards would bring to this season of The Bachelorette.

As always…spoiler alert!

The show opened up to Kaitlyn talking about how she was so happy to be “Waking up this morning as the Bachelorette.”

We hear her talking about this as she is getting out of bed in full make-up with nice hair. Yes gentlemen, we all wake up like this!

The guys all pile into the house and we get our token yell from the balcony, “HELLO KAITLYN!”

They split away from the house to check in on Britt, who is calling her Mom at the hotel, when Brady shows up. (Yes, I’ll come back to this as well…)

The first date card arrived and it’s a group date: Daniel, Justin, Jared, Corey, Tanner, Kupah, Ben H, and Ben Z. “I see this ending with a ring.”

They arrive, and oh good, they’re boxing today. (Does anyone else see this ending poorly?)

Lalia Ali is there to give the guys some tips and pointers, and she’s awesome. And pretty. And awesome.

The guys spar around with each other, have a good time, and then there’s Kupah. He is into to, and kind of forgets that Kaitlyn is there.

Ben Z & Kupah are doing high-five push-ups. #Bros

The guys find out that they are actually going to box each other. In a ring. In front of people.

(Again, does anyone else think this will end poorly? Because we all know how much men enjoy losing…in front of people, and oh yeah, on national television.)

Kaitlyn tells them not to hurt each other. (Maybe she’s questioning this choice?)

First Round:

Ben Z vs Daniel – Ben Z wins

Corey vs Justin – Corey wins

Ben H vs Jared – Jared wins

Kupah vs Tanner – Kupah wins (I mean, he did practice the most.)

Round Two:

Ben Z vs Corey – Ben Z wins

Jared vs Kupah – Jared wins (What?! Nice job Jared!)

Final:

Ben Z vs Jared

Both boys came out swinging, but Ben Z lands a good swing…and down goes Jared.

Kaitlyn gets really worried and says, “I didn’t want anyone to get hurt!”

Then don’t do boxing? (Just a thought.)

Jared goes to the hospital.

The rest of the group moves on to the cocktail part of the evening, where she moves on through some one on one conversations with the guys.

Ben Z shares that he lost his mom at 14. Another shares that he has a son. During her chat with the Fashion Designer, Daniel, she receives a note.

“Come down stairs right now. I need to see you.”

Jared is back, and is okay, so they kiss.

Back at the house another date card has arrived. Clint, who drew a picture of Chris Harrison riding a Triceratops*, will be going on the first one-on-one date.

(*I’m going to want a copy of this picture, Clint.)

The card says something about “taking her breath away”. Joshua says something about if it’s an underwater activity, “that’s drowning.” And I about fell off my couch laughing.

JJ is also starting to act quite a bit cocky.

Back at the group day, Ben Z receives the rose, and some lip wrestling.

The next day, Clint and Kaitlyn arrive at their date and will be doing an underwater photo shoot. (Did anyone else notice Clint rub the photographers back as they were heading to change? Yeah, I did.)

Back at the house Tony (the Healer) is going on about how he thinks the boxing date was a joke, and that “love is as perineal as the grass.”

Kaitlyn and Clint’s photo shoot starts off a bit awkward at first, understandable, it’s a first date. So they kiss, and get more comfortable. Alright. (I must say though, the pictures are looking really creative.)

At the mansion, the next date card arrives. Tony is talking about wanting to see if he and Kaitlyn can “co-exist”. The card: JJ, Jonathan, Joshua, Chris, Ian, Joe, and Tony, “A man who will stand up for me.”

JJ wants these guys to go home, and starts playing dirty. I don’t like JJ anymore. Jerk.

Tony seems to be in need of a little pep talk before he embarks on this date. He wonders if she is supportive, then calls her Britt…not Kaitlyn.

Clint seems very sweet and kind during the dinner portion of their date. (I’m pretty sure this is the only time we see them eat on this show.) he gets the rose, and the smooch again.

The next day the group arrives at an Improv Comedy to have Amy Schumer waiting with Kaitlyn. They are doing stand up comedy, yes, this is already better than boxing.

Amy asks them to tell some jokes, and JJ’s is so bad I won’t repeat it. He is seen later saying that his pickup line is, “Divorced, with a kid, living with his parents.” He also thinks he is smarter than 90% of the audience.

JJ:

Just. No. Thankfully Amy tells him this, and calls him a turd. (Yay Amy!)

Time for the stand up to begin!

Ian makes a Juan Pablo joke. Eesokay.

Chris says that he is so nervous, and unbuttons his shirt.

Tony just goes on…and on…about how he feels thankful to be on stage, and thankful to be enjoying the lighter side of his life. Then leaves the stage. Not kidding. (And that was the “cliff notes” version.)

JJ makes fun of Tony. Of course. Turd.

They are finally done and moving on from that, thankfully it went pretty well.

Joshua talks about how he has never been in love, then talks about his English Bulldog farting and drooling. I like Joshua.

The guys seem to be getting tired of Tony and his random ramblings. Tony tells Kaitlyn that he is opening himself to Kaitlyn while keeping himself aware of the signs the universe presents. He thinks they have made a connection he has been craving…then goes on about a door with a combination and gold behind it.

JJ is a different person with Kaitlyn. He talks about his child, and kisses her. My dog actually growled when this happened.  Even he doesn’t like him. JJ is VERY confident that he is getting the date rose.

Joe takes her outside…to make out.

Dang it…JJ did get those rose. He acts all “surprised” and “humble”, then like a total turd to the camera.

Okay…finally…Cocktail Party time!

Aaannnddd we have to deal with JJ. He won’t “let off the throttle”, and immediately takes her aside, even though he has a rose. The men confront him and let him know that wasn’t okay.

Ian gets time with her and shares his story, then kisses her.

Tony is getting really upset about some of the stuff going on, and says f*ck! (You guys, he said it, he really said that word!)

JJ is proud to be the “villain” and is laughing at them being offended. “Now I can hit the bar early.” Tony is really mad and isn’t enjoying the disrespect.

Kupah is feeling nervous about going home, and feels he doesn’t have a connection. His conversation with Kaitlyn goes on and on, and he kind of doesn’t make sense, and doesn’t make a great case for himself. He kind of just wouldn’t stop talking, and says some very odd things. (Like that he is dedicated to the process of being there. Umm…what?) She says that she just needs to think about it, and they end with a fist bump. (No, I’m not making this up.)

He heads out to the guys and talks, loudly, about their conversation. Kaitlyn hears, pulls him aside and tells him to go. He actually tells her that it’s “pretty sh*tty” and says that he isn’t leaving. Tells her that she is “hot” and “sexy”, and won’t go.

Yeah, he went…not quietly though. He is in front of the mansion getting angry and not speaking nicely to the cameramen and other workers of the show. Kaitlyn over hears this as well, and we’ll find out this coming Monday how this all ends.

We finish the episode joining back with Britt and Brady who have been having a great time together, and decide to date. So really, this is quite working out for her for not being picked to be the Bachelorette.

Good for you, Britt!

The Bachelorette – Premier

Last Monday and Tuesday brought us the two night premier of the new season of The Bachelorette. If you haven’t watched yet, this will contain spoilers…so…

*Spoiler Alert*

This season the hit ABC show decided to try something new and advertised that we would have not one, but two Bachelorettes.

Kaitlyn Bristowe and Britt Nilsson both from last season’s Bachelor with Chris Soules, would be heading into this season looking for love.

Chris Harrison opened up the show of course saying it would be a “Very dramatic premier.” He also used the words “controversial” and “historic”. (I think we’re starting to get a bit “dramatic” with our choice of words.)

Britt is shown in a white flowing gown, with large rhinestone embellished waist, and a slit up the right side of the skirt of the dress.

Kaitlyn is shown wearing a high neck style, long gown that was covered in navy blue sequins, with a slight train at the back.

Chris Harrision introduces some video backgrounds of some of the men who will be arriving at the house.

We see men from different careers (although the there are numerous personal trainer/fitness specialist in the mix), parts of the country, one with a child, and one that is…well…a stripper. So far, the men seem pretty split on who they are going to the house in hopes of meeting.

Both of the potential Bachelorettes arrive at the house, and we found out that not both girls will be staying. Chris Harrison explains that the men will have “the power” and will vote during the night, using roses. Once every man has cast his vote, the girl with the most roses will be this season’s Bachelorette.

At this point, things look very awkward between both girls, as well as a bit uneasy. I’m wondering how many people were actually surprised by this news.

The time finally came for the men to start arriving, and limo by limo, they stepped out to try to impress the girls.

(I’m not going to give a full run down of each guy, let’s be honest, you don’t want to read that much.)

Ryan B, 32 year-old Realtor from Wellington, FL calls Britt a “Disney Princess”.

Jared, a 26 year-old Restaurant Manager from Warwick, RI shows off his “Super Shirt” saying that he has an alter ego, and it is “Love Man”.

Tony, a 35 year-old “Healer” from St. Louis, MO who shows up with a black eye…he has said in his background video that he is “anti-social” (does this explain the black eye?) and talks to plants.

Numerous men have stepped out of the limo going right to Britt, this has left Kaitlyn looking rather lonely. Thankfully, it starts to even out with men going to her first as well.

JJ, a 32 year-old Former Investment Banker from Denver, CO approaches Kaitlyn first, with a hockey puck, abs says, “I would love to puck you.” Playing off of her initial meeting to Chris Soules when she said that he could, “Plow her field.” The joke is well received and Kaitlyn laughs very hard.

A few more men arrive, when Kaitlyn suddenly runs off into the house to say hello to the guys, leaving Britt standing alone outside. Britt says she felt that it was “cheating” and not fair”.

After a few more men arrive, we see Ryan (a 28 year-old “Junkyard Specialist) inside the house, and he is already pretty drunk. He is shown saying that he is, “All horned up.” He is loud, mouthy, and is badly quoting movies.

Shawn E. a 31 year-old Sex Coach from Ontario, Canada arrives in a Hot Tub Car. We hear drunk Ryan from the bushes yell, “That car sucks!”

Chris, a 28 year-old Dentist from Nashville, TN arrives in a candy corn embellished cupcake car, and leaves everyone watching the show wanting one.

The rest of the men arrive, and the girls finally enter the house.

The cocktail party seems to be going well, with fairly easy flow of conversation, and men discussing who they arrived for, and who they are voting for.

Some men enter the “voting room” fairly early in the evening and cast their votes.

We continue to see video of Ryan who is being wildly obnoxious, and getting drunker as the night goes on. If any of the other men try to question him on it, he gets rudely defensive and tells them off.

He is seen basically feeling Kaitlyn up, then slaps her butt. (NOT OKAY!) He is also seen stumbling through the house knocking a picture off the wall, throwing the rose he is supposed to use for voting, then strips down to jus underwear and gets in the pool.

Shortly after this, we see a Bachelorette Bouncer come in and tell him that Chris Harrison wants to talk to him out front. They send his rear home! He is clearly not here for the right reasons.

From my view and opinion of episode one, Kaitlyn seems to be making a better impression with the men.

Oh, and apparently Shawn smells good.

The voting ends, and both girls look nervous….and in true Bachelorette form…the episode ends.

Tuesday Night:

We open back up to the cocktail party, where both girls have been separated, and sit alone.

Chris Harrison approaches Britt first, and tells her that she was not the chosen Bachelorette. He walks her out to the limo and says goodbye. She seemed really surprised, and it was kind of awkward.

Chris Harrison then goes to Kaitlyn and, again, in true Bachelorette, dramatic form says, “Unfortunately Kaitlyn…I had to send Britt home.” Kaitlyn calls her Mom and is very excited.

Chris Harrison announces her back into the room with the guys, and they all cheer. Some of the men who voted for Britt are later seen saying that they feel nervous.

Kaitlyn now has a chance to get to know the guys to decide who will get the “First Impression Rose”, as well as those she’ll choose to stay.

Some one-on-ones went really well with JJ opening up to her, and she was really happy to see him opening up. Chris, the dentist apparently wanted to see how her mouth was, because he kissed her first during their conversation.

She decided that Shawn (you know, the guy who smells good?) was to get the “First Impression Rose”, and he decided to kiss her as well.

(Little fast, but whatever.)

During the rose ceremony, Brady (a singer/song writer from Nashville) pulls her aside about half way through. He was very kind and respectful and shares with her that he came for Britt, and that he would like to see if Britt is interested in meeting him. He kindly leaves after talking to Chris Harrison and heads to the hotel where Britt is staying.

Kaitlyn finishes the rose ceremony without any further interruption. They do many one-on-one camera interviews with they guys, and numerous guys feel that those who voted for Britt should have left.

The men who did not get a rose leave the mansion…in the daylight! Holy moly! How early in the morning is it?! How long were they in there?

Previews for the season show a lot of animosity between the guys, the return of Nick (from a previous Bachelorette season), and will Kaitlyn sleep with a contestant too soon?! How will the men take it?!

Check in soon for my review of the first “date” episode of this season!

My front runner so far: JJ

Easy Chicken Pot Pie

This is an easy, and delicious recipe that my parents taught me a few years ago. It doesn’t take long to whip up, and even my tiny human eats it, and asks for seconds.

Ingredients:

1 pkg Pillsbury Pie Crust (with two roll out crusts)

2 10.5oz can Campbell’s Cream of Chicken soup with Herbs

2 10oz can Valley Fresh Chicken Breast

1 14.4oz bag Frozen Mixed Vegetables

Fresh Ground Pepper for taste

0.5-1 tbls Butter

Remove one pie crust, and gently roll out. Place in pie pan, pressing into sides and bottom, as well as along edges.

Open the cans of chicken and drain the water out.

In mixing bowl, combine both cans of soup, chicken, and the bag of veggies. Mix throughly, and season with fresh ground pepper to taste.

Pour mixture into prepared crust.

Prepare second crust by gently rolling out, and cutting a small hole in the middle. (My little one chose our small apple shaped cutter.)

Place over the mixture, and press along the edges to seal.

Using a sharp knife cut four small slits about an inch from the hole, then four more toward the out edge to vent. (See picture above.)

Take knife and gently cut the excess crust off from around the edge of the pie pan.

Melt butter in small, microwave safe bowl. (I put it in for 15 seconds.) Using a small brush, “paint” butter over entire crust, it is okay if you don’t use all of the butter.

Place in oven preheated to 400 degrees and bake for 20-30 minutes. Check at 20 minutes, and leave it in if the crust isn’t nicely browned around the edge, and the middle isn’t a little toasted.

If you have a crust cover, I recommend using it. I do not have one, and the edges of my crust can sometimes come out over done.

Let cool for 5 minutes, serve and enjoy!

Boho Chic

I keep seeing these adorable pictures of girls wearing headbands, and I figured out the other day, it actually is that hard to do! I will do a post on just the hair soon.

For now, I’ll focus on the whole look! I love this Liz Lange black Maxi from Target. I can pair it with different pieces and accessories to give it many different looks!

You can get this look with any fabulous black maxi too. I paired the whole outfit with black sandals.

Teacher Appreciation

The end of the school year is coming up, and it’s important to show teachers how much we appreciate what they do.

Here is a sweet way to show your child’s teacher you’re thankful for all their hard work.

All items were purchased at Target.
You’ll need:

Cute Decorative Tin Pail

Mini-Flower Grow Kit

Starburst Candies

Fill each tin a little over half way with Starbursts, place the Mini-Flower Kit in the middle, then top off with more Starbursts.

Yep, it’s that easy!

I took them in with a note to each teacher that started with, “Thank you for helping me grow to reach the stars.” Along with a personalized note, and signed it from our child.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Day!

Date Night Outfit

This weekend my husband and I got the chance to actually go on a date, without our tiny human. We went to see Avengers: Age of Ultron. (And it was awesome!)

I channeled my inner “Agent Coulson” for the afternoon (let’s be honest, we all miss him.) While also realizing, I have been loving the layered look!
