Age Before Beauty? How To Stay Beautiful Well Into Your Later Years!

There’s an odd stereotype, which many people just seem to take as fact, that being old and being attractive are essentially opposites. As though simply growing older results in a person, especially women, becoming less beautiful. It doesn’t take much to figure out that this is a seriously weird idea. After all, if that’s the case how do you explain women like Helen Mirren, Monica Belucci or Liz Hurley, all of whom are over fifty and still look amazing! The big problem is that people assume that things that start happening as you get older, gray hair, wrinkles, etc. are inherently ugly traits. But what happens if people stop taking those things as inherently bad things and start looking at them differently? Here are a few ways to stay looking beautiful well into your later years.

Change your makeup routine

One thing that you’re not going to be able to do anything about is that your face is simply going to change shape as you get older. Your cheeks will become less plump, and your cheekbones will start to show more clearly. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing since it can potentially give a new sense of elegance and definition to your face. But it also means that your makeup routine is probably going to need to change. The highlights and contours that you once used aren’t going to work as well anymore. Shift over to subtle matte shades and smokey eye shadow to help compliment your new features while de-emphasizing things like crow’s feet and laugh lines.

The “S” word

For many women, the idea of going down the cosmetic surgery route becomes much more tempting as they get older. This is the kind of thing where you need to be absolutely sure that it’s the best option for you. If you feel like surgery is something that will really help improve your life and make you feel good about your body, then you should check out these thoughts from However, you need to make sure that there’s no pressure come from other people that’s causing you to want to go down this route. There’s nothing wrong with wanting cosmetic surgery, but it’s your body, and so it should be entirely your decision.

Embrace it!

Of course, there is one final option. An option which is simultaneously the simplest and most difficult of all. Just embrace it! You’re getting older, sure, but so what? You’re still as fierce and beautiful as you always were, a few extra laugh lines or a couple of gray hairs aren’t going to change that! Why not just enjoy your new look and embrace the elegance and grace that comes with getting older. If you look at someone like Helen Mirren, she doesn’t try to hide her gray hair and wrinkles; she just knows that she’s just as drop dead gorgeous now as she was forty years ago and you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who’d argue with her. She’s able to carry herself with so much confidence that it’s impossible to deny how good she looks. If you can adopt that same attitude then it won’t matter how old you are, you’ll still be looking great!
