We all love the summer but it can take its toll on the skin. We may love the heat but our skin does not. On top of that, it must cope with pollution, humidity and strong sunlight. Get it back with these 5 essential tips for radiant summer skin.
- Sunscreen is a must!
A large proportion of summer skin problems is caused the intensity of the sun. This causes damage. The only way to slow this process down is to apply sunscreen. If you find an old bottle at the back of your cupboards you should throw it away. Fresh sunscreen is the best! Buy a product that is available in SPF 30 and SPF 70 and use about a teaspoon on your face. It should be reapplied every 1-2 hours if you want to see the difference in your complexion
2. Moisturize as much as you can
Our skin loses a lot of moisture in the summer and dryness can be a problem. There are some great korean skin care products to choose from which will soothe and refresh sun-frazzled skin. Don’t just focus on the face. The whole body needs a summery lotion. Thick winter body butters will feel too heavy at this time of year so pack them away. Invest in some light summery lotions that your skin can easily absorb.
Gels and purees work well and light fruity lotions are always popular in the summer. The best time to apply them is right after you get out of the shower. It doesn’t matter if your skin is still a little damp. The moisturizer will seal in the moisture.
3. Start as you mean to go on
You may be glowing by the end of the summer but you don’t want to start off looking washed out. Why not add a little summer tint to your skin at the end of Spring. Using a sunless tanner will give your tan the kick-start that it needs. You will feel confident enough to wear all your strappy dresses. Choose a facial moisturizer that builds a bit of color at a time and soon you will be able to ditch the foundation and concealer.
4. Start from the bottom up
Our poor feet are trapped away in boots all over the winter months and can emerge looking a little sorry or themselves. Now that sandal season has arrived it is time to do something about it. A professional pedicure is the best option but you could do it yourself if you on a budget. Scrub off the dead dry skin several times a week and apply a bright nail polish.
5. Drink, drink, drink
Hydrating your body is always important but in summer you need at least 8 glasses of water a day. Carry a water bottle with you everywhere and drink at least once every 30 minutes.
