How Important Is Appearance – Really?

Let’s talk about appearance. People put such a focus on appearance. You often get people who are judged by the way they look – and in a way it can tell you a few things about their personality. However, you can never assume you know somebody simply from the way they look. Let’s look at how important appearance really is in this day and age:

First Impressions

The way you look gives people an impression of you. In some cases, the impression they get will say far more about them than it does about you. If somebody judges you harshly for what you choose to wear or having tattoos, that has a lot to do with their mindset and the things they have been brought up around. People should be free to wear whatever makes them feel comfortable!

However, sometimes making a first impression is very important. If you’re going for a job that you really want, it only makes sense to dress to impress and make yourself look neat and presentable. Some jobs still discriminate against people with tattoos these days, and that’s a real shame. Providing tattoos on show aren’t ‘inappropriate’ in any way, there isn’t a real reason an employee, even a teacher, can’t have them. Surely we should be teaching children that expressing yourself in any way you like is a good thing? Not that we should all look the same and that individuality is wrong!

This is still up for debate in the eyes of some employers.

Self Esteem

Your self esteem can be greatly affected by your appearance. Some people have small niggles that don’t affect their overall well being – like larger feet or thin eyebrows. These things are just small problems. However, people with issues like bad eyes can feel low on self esteem from time to time. Wearing glasses is enjoyable for some, but not for others. It’s important that everybody is happy and comfortable in their own skin – which is why many opt for lasik surgery. Whatever you decide to do, whether you’re thinking of having surgery on your eyes or another body part, you need to make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons. If you don’t like yourself at all, having surgery may not change that very much.

The Way You Feel

The clothes we wear, how we smell, and other factors into the way we appear can greatly affect how we feel. You’ll often find that wearing clothes you love will make you feel happier and more productive. Wearing clothes to lounge in might be fun at the time, but it certainly won’t help you to get more done.

While appearance isn’t the be all and end all; you should definitely focus on how you want to feel when you get ready for the day ahead. Choose clothes that will make you feel confident and productive. Do things because you want to do them, not because all of the celebrities are doing them. You’re going to get judged whatever you do, so you may as well do it your way!

7 Summer Holiday Fashion Essentials

It’s almost here! We’re on the brink of Summer and for most people that means one thing – Summer Holiday! The soft, luscious sand between your feet, the hot sun warm against your skin and a cold cocktail in your hand. Sunglasses

They’re an absolute essential. Not only because they’ll protect your eyes from the sun, but also because you don’t want to be walking around squinting 24/7. It isn’t an attractive look. Luckily, you can go wild when it comes to fashion style with sunglasses. There are so many too choose from. From oversized to leopard print to My Little Pony. Remember, you only need 2 pairs, max.

Beach Bag

You’ll probably spend a lot of time on the beach while you’re away, and you’ll need a fashionable way of transporting your belonging to and fro. A beach bag should be able to hold important items like your purse, hotel room key, a bottle of water and a beach towel. This year, bird prints are the go to look.

Walking Sandals

It’s surprising how much walking you do while on holiday. Whether it’s just from the hotel to your beach or you decide to go on a tour of the attractions, you’ll need reliable foot wear. If the weather is hot, your only option is a sandal because you don’t want to suffocate your feet. Look for a sandal you’re comfortable in before jetting off.

Versatile Clothing

Every girl needs a dress that can be worn in the day and in the night. Sometimes all you need is a belt to make a huge difference. Take some clothing that you know can work for different occasions. For example, a skirt that can double up as beach wear and still look good for a night on the town. If you need to do this on a budget, take a look at some tips here – http://tools2tiaras.com/shopaholic-rein-fashion-spending/

The Perfect Bikini

Sometimes, all you need for your body to be Summer ready is the perfect swimwear. Take your time and search for a bikini or one-piece that’s flattering for your body shape. Take this quiz to find out what bikini you should be wearing.

Hair Accessories

Ever noticed how you prefer your hair more natural when you’re on holiday? Natural waves are a fashionable look while you’re away and you may find that all you need is a good hair clip or band to feel at your best. If your hair hates humidity, you may want to take some frizz ease products with you too.

Kaftan

When in Rome! While you’re away, you may notice the locals selling fashionable kaftans. Not only are they beautiful but they have a brilliant way of keeping you cool in the days and keeping you warm in the evenings. Pick one up as a treat for yourself.

4 Ways to Help A Beauty-Novice Friend With Their Style

Flickr

Exercising your friendship muscle is always beneficial, and is necessary from time to time. Sometimes in order to show our friends how much we care, we need to let them know we’re there for them no matter what. If your friend has been through a rough time lately or is simply showing signs of low self-esteem about their style, helping them with the way they dress or groom can yield huge results for their life optimism.

This isn’t to say you should force a new wardrobe or lifestyle on someone, but subtly asking if you’d like to go shopping or go for a spontaneous makeover might be just what they need. Of course, just helping someone with a new style might not solve problems they’re facing, but it will let you know that you care about the way they feel day-to-day, and that’s important.

Follow this handy guide to help your beauty-unconscious friend feel like a million dollars.

  1. Go For A Spa Day

Beauty needn’t be a chore! Sometimes a spa day completed with manicures and pedicures is an amazing way to catch up and fully relax them for the rest of the points on this list. You can often find good deals for two friends attending the same spa, so be sure to make use of it and see what good your relaxing day out can accomplish!

  1. Help Them With Their Smile

Give your friend a genuine reason to smile by taking them to a specialist dentist and getting their teeth whitened. Make it a point that this is for the purpose of helping them smile about life, and they’ll more often than not get the point and go along with it, as well as thanking you for your efforts.

You can find frequently asked questions about teeth whitening here. It’s been proven that a better smile leads to happier moods, so with this, you’re showing your friend you’re always there to make them feel better. Plus you’ll both look fantastic at the end of it.

  1. Go To The Gym Together

Going to the gym together is an amazing way to feel better and fit your clothes in a shapely way. You’ll be less likely to neglect a session because neither of you will want to let the other down, but you’ll also find it easier to get through a gruelling session on the treadmill if your friend is there. This is a great way to naturally improve their confidence and show that you’re there through thick and thin!

  1. Take Them To A Salon

Sometimes a makeover is required, sometimes a new haircut is all it takes. Going to a salon helps you get among experts, as the staff will be well versed in all things beauty. Even if you’re the most style-focussed person, the opinion of someone who works in that field can be invaluable. It’s also a great time to have a good chat with your friend and feel incredible after you leave.

For the most part being a good friend is about being present, but showing you care in more tangible ways never goes to waste. They will thank you for being a super friend often, and maybe return the favor one day!

Better Than A Diet – The Slim Look With Less Hassle

So many women feel they are struggling with their weight. The trouble is, you might be well within your normal range for your height. So why do you feel you need to shed a few more pounds? The slim look is gorgeous, but it seems to be really hard to achieve. However, there are lots of secrets adopted by the It girls and celebrities to help create the illusion of that perfect silhouette. It doesn’t involve diets, and it’s much easier to stick to!

Dressing for your shape is one of the best ways you can create that beautiful slim look you’re working so hard for. We tend to forget that most of those bargain items of clothing look great in the store but aren’t necessarily flattering for our figure. Yes, supportive underwear can work wonders. No, you shouldn’t wear it all the time. Those special cocktail dresses you wear once a month are usually the only outfits you would wear them with.

Instead, have a look in the mirror. There are plenty of websites out there to help you determine the shape you are most like. Generally speaking, the illusion of the perfect feminine form starts with the chest. If you’ve got plenty none of your tops will do you justice. If you are athletic in build, then you’ll find lots of tops are going to hang there and emphasize a smaller shape. What you need to do is find the right style of top. Start with the necklines that flatter your beautiful bosom the most. Don’t forget to try it with more than one bra!

Some of us can get stuck in a rut when it comes to style. This can leave you looking a little older than you really are. Instead, check out new fashion outlets. If you’re not sure, stick with the promos, like the current Forever 21 deals so you can get a feel for something fresh. Sometimes a complete change of direction in your fashion choices can boost your confidence too.

If you genuinely need to lose a little weight, then don’t buy clothes that fit the size you should be. Flatter the shape you are today. You can always try a few of our little tricks to shred a pound or two. Love the body you have today. It can always be improved tomorrow if that’s the direction you want to go. Squeezing holiday weight into old clothes definitely won’t do you any favors so check out a couple of different items.

Your posture is the easiest thing to adjust and the easiest thing to alter your silhouette. Carrying extra weight can sometimes bring out the timid, shy you. This causes necks to shrink down as the shoulders hunch up. If you feel bloaty, you might leave your stomach to roll out. If you don’t hold your body correctly every day, your core will weaken, and your metabolism might slow down. So extend the neck and hold your head high. Adjust the derriere and hold that tummy firmly in place. Walk with confidence and love your body.

Five Reasons Your Wardrobe Should Be Full Of Vintage Items

The vintage and boho look is so on trend this season that the second-hand thrift shops are blooming. Style classics never go out of fashion, and the current fashions are always echoing styles of the past – it’s all about the 90s at the moment – so why not go authentic? The clothes tend to be cheaper and better made, and you’ll never turn up to a party in the same dress as someone else when your dress is 60 years old.

  1. The mismatch style is on point

The beautiful boho mismatched style is so chic at the moment. The spring summer catwalk for this year was full of beautiful 1960s style hanging earrings, but a different one in each ear. Floral patterns, tassels, and tribal symbols look fantastic thrown together, and super feminine too.

  1. It’s cheaper

While vintage clothing can cost a bit more in store, it’s made to last. Clothes these days are almost disposable – they’re churned out in their millions in huge factories in third world companies with financial markups that would make your eyes water. Vintage clothes were, more often than not, lovingly hand-crafted. The quality is in the fabric, the detail, and the construction. Yes, it might cost you more up front, but it won’t need replacing any time soon.

  1. You might find a gem

As fashion writer Mandi Woodruff writes in How to Save Money on Your Fall Wardrobe | Teen Vogue that clothing swaps between friends are a great way to find the piece of clothing you never knew you needed, and anything else goes to Goodwill or the Salvation Army. That means these stores are brimming with amazing clothes, both modern and vintage that could give your look the X factor. You never know, you might find yourself a gem when browsing the racks.

  1. It’s better for the environment

The universal fashion industry has an awful impact on the environment. Everything is created for as little money as possible, with a lot of pollution as a byproduct. The process of creating the fabric and then the items themselves uses pesticides and chemicals which are then leached into the environment. They’re  then shipped halfway across the world into a store that you or I could walk into. Every time you buy vintage, that is one fewer item of clothing that needs making – it’s basically clothing recycling.

  1. You’ll never end up matching

We’ve all been in this horrifying situation: you walk into a party in your favorite dress, only to find someone else there in the same piece, that you then have to spend the rest of the night avoiding. Is there anything more embarrassing? If your favorite dress is 50 years old, the likelihood of that awkward situation happening is significantly lessened, almost to the point of impossibility. Your style, becomes completely unique, and very cool.

If you know how to style vintage pieces to keep them on trend, there are so many reasons you should do it. And more than anything, they can be ridiculously cute, and totally worth the investment.

Finding Clothes You Feel Comfortable In

Fashion isn’t always easy to get right first time around. The whole industry can be a bit of a minefield at times. There are so many different designers and high street stores all throwing their own trends at you, and the media implies that whatever the celebrities are wearing is essentially the holy grail. Once you’ve got your head around all this season’s (and next season’s, and the season after that) trends, you then have the small matter of working out what out of it actually suits you. There is a common misconception that all the trends we see on the runway and in the magazines are wearable by everyone, but unfortunately, this is rarely the case. More often than not, this kind of clothing is designed with a very specific figure in mind – leaving many of us struggling to find clothes we feel comfortable in. If you are struggling to update your closet with things that make you feel good, take a look at these following tips.

Throw trends out the window

As mentioned above, the fashion industry watches a lot of trends come and go. There are a few problems that can arise from trying to get on board with every single one. Firstly, you will find that you end up spending a LOT of money on clothes, as once the season is over, the trend usually dies with it – meaning you end up buying into the next one, thus ending up with a lot of stuff you simply don’t wear. Secondly, not all trends suit everyone. You might love a specific new style, but it just isn’t working for your body shape – can you re-work it into a look that does, or can you find something else you love even more? The key to good style is wearing clothes that flatter YOU, not trying to make yourself flatter the clothes.

Wear clothes that are fit for purpose

Is there anything more awkward than feeling uncomfortable in what you are wearing? Maybe you feel over or underdressed for a specific occasion, or maybe you’ve pushed yourself way too far out of your comfort zone. There’s nothing at all wrong with breaking the conventional rules of fashion, but make sure you are doing it on your terms. If you don’t feel comfortable wearing heels for that night out, just don a sparkly pair of flats instead. Stop trying to make a fashion statement at the gym with high-street clothing and instead invest in some work out clothes for women. Once you are dressed for the occasion, you will spend much less time worrying about what’s on your back.

Get measured

It’s surprising how many women don’t know their official clothing size. Of course, sizes do differ from store to store – but if you want to make sure you are looking and feeling good in your outfits, it is a good idea to get measured. For example, you may dread the thought of going up a dress size in your jeans – but you could actually make yourself look slimmer and more elegant by buying a bigger pair, instead of squeezing into ones that are too tight for you. A good fitting bra is also a must have for any woman! You will be amazed at the different changing up your sizing can make.

5 Fashion Staples You Can’t Do Without

It doesn’t really make all that much difference how much you consider yourself to be fashion-minded or not – there are certain items that no modern woman can go without. Knowing what these are, and how you might expect to make good use of them, can help you out massively when it comes to getting ready for a whole host of occasions in your daily life. Really, that is what we are trying to achieve here; it’s not about falling in line with certain trends or fashions, but using those ever-lasting staples which you can make great use of again and again. This is going to benefit you in a huge number of ways, and you will look great doing it, so it is clear that this is a good idea to at least bear in mind, Let’s take a look at some of the absolute staples of fashion which simply must grace your wardrobe at least at some point.

Black Heels

There is no question that shoes are an important part of the whole ensemble for any occasion, and choosing the right shoe can often make a world of difference. One of the great things about this essential item – the black heels – is that they go with such a wide range of different outfits for all sorts of occasions which you are likely to come across. Another really big plus is that you only really need one pair, and that is likely to set you right for the foreseeable future. With a good pair of black heels, you will probably find that you feel complete much more of the time – and they also seem to have that effect of turning heads, too – something which nobody minds from time to time. Make sure you get yourself a decent pair as soon as possible, if you don’t already have one.

Denim Jacket

This next one is the kind of item that seems to be perpetually in fashion. Perhaps part of the reason for that is that it can be used in such a vast number of different ways on all sorts of occasions. No matter what the outfit is shaping out to look like, it can often be saved or dramatically improved by the use of a well-placed denim jacket. Clearly, having some denim jackets in your wardrobe is going to be a life saver on many occasions, and it is also bound to be the kind of thing you can throw on when you don’t know what else to go for. People of all ages and styles successfully make use of this item, so it has to be considered an essential for your wardrobe.

Trench Coat

Although you might have an image in your head of what trench coat means, that is probably not what we are talking about here. If you are thinking long black thick and heavy, then that’s not quite the style we’re going for. Instead, we mean a light and waterproof trench coat, the kind which anyone can make use of as an essential part of their daily wardrobe. The great thing about this item is that it offers an easy way to be classically stylish, and at the same time you can use it to cover any outfit you like – no matter what, it is always going to do the expected job. If you don’t already have one, you might be surprised what a difference it can make if you do get hold of one.

Cardigan

Warmth is always an important concern, and there are many ways to make sure that you have it with your items in your wardrobe. Arguably one of the best solutions around is the cardigan, however, partly due to the way in which it is pleasantly versatile, and partly because they tend to be so affordable that you could easily stock your cupboard with many of them and make a whole host of your outfits considerably more comfortable and in a sense much more complete. Using a cardigan in the right way really can make all the difference.

Jeans
If ever there were a timeless classic, the jeans are it. There is a good reason that these should be considered an absolute staple of any wardrobe: it makes no difference what your style is, or how old you are, or anything really, because the right pair of jeans is always going to look good, and they can even be used to complete a range of outfits, all the way from smart to casual.

Buying Fashion Gifts For Your Friends

Image from pexels

Regardless of occasion there comes a time that we need to get a special gift for a good friend.  Buying presents is often far better than receiving them so taking pride in what you buy is really important.

Most groups of friends are made up from a mixture of very different people and that means a variety of tastes and styles which can sometimes make buying a fashion gift a little bit tougher.  You need to really consider if your bestie is going to appreciate that stunning black shirt or if putting it against her pastel pop wardrobe, it’s never going to get worn.  Or if your idea of the perfect punk rock chic, studded skirt is going to ever get an outing from your reserved, fashion introvert.

Accessories are a really good place to start as their are so many twists on the seasons trends, incorporated into various bags, bracelets and statement necklaces.  Plus there is opportunity to get very personal.  If you are looking for a super special gift there are a brilliant range of diamond bracelets on the market which can look subtle and elegant or be rocked up to look edgy and cool.  You may be looking for a smaller gift so check out the elegant range of choker necklaces that are bang on trend right now.

It’s hard to imagine going wrong with a basic white tee or a little black jacket.  Either can be dressed up or down and can be switched up by adding other items to the mix.  Depending on your friend you could consider going for a typographic shirt with a big bold statement on the front.  Or even a logo shirt with an old classic rock band or brand.  Tshirts are a good place to start because even if they aren’t worn every day, they are useful to have in the drawer for chilling at home.

What about something high on trend for the home?  Fashion doesn’t start and finish in your closet.  You don’t have to be completely up to date with their style, just a simple collection of candles in a colour you know will fit their home.  You could consider buying a beautiful throw or some designer cushions.  If you know your friend really well why not surprise them with a stunning artwork.  If you are confident you understand their taste this can be a really special gift to give and will be displayed in their home to remind them of your friendship everyday.

Be thoughtful and don’t get caught up buying for you or giving something you would like.  This is about making your friend feel special and appreciated.  A gift box of their favourite make up is another great idea.  Make sure everything is wrapped beautifully or in elegant bags, part of the fun of these surprises is gently peeling back the paper or removing the bow.

Take time to appreciate your friends and let them know you appreciate having them in your life.

Fancy Fall Style

I was so happy for the chance to style this amazing skirt for fall.

When it first popped up on my local Versona’s Instagram page, I went right in to grab it.

I had the chance to style it for a summer and knew then how I would transition this piece to a different season.

A printed skirt with a solid top makes for not only a great look, but a stunning statement outfit.

I also love the handmade necklace from Find the Beauty in Everything I paired with it. The stones she chose contrasted beautifully with my navy blue top.

One Outfit, Two Ways

Autumn is finally arriving around here, and I am ready. We hit the 90s last week, and have thankfully been seeing some cooler temperatures this week.

The warm temperatures will likely return to us, so I keep my closet ready for both kinds of weather.

As you know, I am all about a more classic style, while also having pieces to mix and match. You will see some of these pieces more through out this season; I am looking forward to showing other ways to style them.

Summer Transition:

Once fall arrives, I pretty much move on from summer, mentally at least. I was glad when we had a slight dip in weather (meaning it was probably low 80s) and I was able to wear this transition outfit.

I left the vest open since it was warm out, and paired the outfit with my Chuck Taylor’s.

Fall Inspired:

The base pieces of this outfit are the same. I simply closed the vest for the cooler weather, and paired it with a cute pair of black ankle boots. This is such an easy way to take an outfit from summer to fall!

I also switched up some of the jewelry.
